What am I doing? My Vinious Mission ...

So I am on a mission ... to know Burgundy by taste. I want to recognize place in the Burgundies I drink. Someday I would like the skill to recognize them blind but I'll start by cataloging them into my palates memory with repeated experiences. Since I am not descended from a Noble Family with a fully stocked wine cellar this requires that I pick these off from on-line auctions and other retail sources.

It also requires that I take the full tour ... Village by Village, Vintage by Vintage and all the Producers I can afford. I intend to stop at all levels (Villages, 1er & Grand Cru) until I know this pat. I want to be able to taste these wines Blind and reliably call out Village, Vineyard, Vintage and Producer. It's going to take a while ... better get started.

First Post

Finally starting my wine blog ... been drinking wine for 25+ years and got serious (geeky) about it 3 years ago during a serious shift in my palates sensibilities. Sold off all the accumulated crap I really wasn't interested in drinking anymore was finally willing to publicly admit that most wine from my home state of California just bores me to tears.

For now it's all about Burgundy and Barolo for palate thrills ...

Why Shug? My last name is Sugarman, a pure Ellis Island creation stating my background as the descendant of Jews from the Old world shortly after the the turn of the century. My Great Grand Father Morris spelled our last name name Shugarman to be more American ... my nickname throughout my school years and to this day is Shug ... sometimes labels just exist ... I choose to embrace mine.

Now on to the wine.
